Surprisingly it’s not a Porsche. It’s one I picked up for $3 at a Mustang Swap Meet. This is a 1970 Matchbox Ford GT, made in England.

I just love the 48 years of patina, and the diecast engine detail is sweet.

I was thinking about “restoring” it maybe, I’ve just got no idea how. Regardless, I love it to death, and take it everywhere I go. It’s kinda like a good luck charm.

Head over to LalD. Those guys can provide some great insight on how to refurb it.

EDIT I see it over there now

W o w , n i c e f i n d !

T i p : t ry to find an earlier, non “Superfast” one (yellow wheels with s e p a r a t e black plastic “tyres”) and you’ll have a c u t e r model almost as old as the GT40 itself . (Incidentally, t h a t w a s on e of my first Matchbox cars, if not the first).

I am not sure about trying to restore it... it is in relatively good shape, and you’d have to say goodbye to the original blue band and racing number. F or a restoration job I’d try to locate first a truly bad one on eBay (or whatever) (already painted a n d / o r with worse scratches , e t c. )

I’ve had it for 4-5 years now, and it really puts equivalent Hotwheels contemporaries to shame. What is this “Superfast” one you speak of? This is my only Matchbox car. Looking them up, the detail on these older ones is seemingly way ahead of Hotwheels for the time. I may start collecting them.

You know more of the topic than I do. I’d considered it’s condition to be rather “meh” which is why I was wondering about restoration, however that’d work. I think I’ll keep this one as is and maybe find something worse to fix up.

“Superfast” was the name Matchbox gave to the new-generation models with needle-thin axles and low-friction plastic wheels. Really faster, when pushed, than the older models.

I found this link to a description of the GT40 Matchbox model. The picture shows the old - style wheels.

I’d say your GT40 looks prett good and has a charm of its own.
